STREET SEATS X DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
Street Seats 2018 was done in partnership with NYC DOT and an interdisciplinary team of designers to complete public seating on 13th st and 5th ave that spanned two parking spots for six months. My responsibilities included producing the stamped drawing set for city and engineering approval, calculating quantities of hardware pieces, and leading fabrication. Support was provided by Greenbelt Native Plant Center, Greenwood Robinson Landscape Design Build, Silman Structural Engineers, Van Houten Farms, Voltaic Systems, and Westco FG Corp.
As part of this collaborative project with the DOT we had to adhere to a series of strict city mandated guidelines to ensure the design was not only ADA complaint, but weather durable and resistant to city wear and tear. We would frequently meet with the DOT Street Furniture Director and senior engineers at Silman to workshop our ideas to make sure our concepts were solid.
